Till now the interest rate of Savings account was regulated by RBI . It was 4% applicable to all Banks . RBI was planning to make this free since long time and ultimately it was announed on 25th October 2011
Some Banks like Yes Bank immediately announced the hike in their Savings account interest rate from 4% to 6% . Woww!! . We all will get some more money from our Idle fund in Savings account .
