India reducing US treasury Bond Holding




India reduced its holding of US Treasury bond in the year 2011. It has reduced the holding by USD 6.3 Billion from one year before figure of 40.5 Billion. As per the latest statistics published by US Government many Countries increase the holding whereas many other Countries has reduced the holding during 2011 , when the Credit rating of USA was downgraded by S&P. Surprisingly Countries like Japan , UK , Brazil has increased their holding in US Bond during 2011.India is now the 18th largest holder of US Bond as against 15th largest one year back .Although China has reduced its
 exposure by 60 Billion it continued to be the largest holder of US Treasury Bond ( USD 1100 Billion ) followed by Japan ( USD 1000 Billion ) . Other major Countries are UK, Taiwan, Brazil, Switzerland and Hong Kong .In India majority of the holding is by RBI who invests in US Bond as part of Forex reserve portfolio.
